Lacing up your corset

How do I do it up?

Despite the popular myth, you do not need an engineering degree or a staff of twelve to get into one of these corsets! (Although a staff of twelve does sound like a good idea at times!)

Here's the step by step instructions on how I lace up my Victorian Mantua. I've been clocked at 15 seconds, but I do admit to having some practice!

The first time you put it on, you'll want to loosen the laces as much as possible. After you get the fit, you will leave them only loosened a bit.

Start by swinging the corset around your back.

I attach the bottom knob of the busk first to hold it in place.
Then I adjust how the corset sits on my hips to get the positioning correct.
Then I do up the top knob of the busk.

Working my way down I do up the rest of the busk.

This will usually require undoing the bottom one to have room to do up the ones in the middle.

When all the busk is done up, I tie the ribbon at the top. Not all corsets have the top ribbon.

In the back, start at the top and tighten the laces by walking down the loops with your thumbs.

There are two large loops at your waist line where the laces come out and go back in the same side. This is the middle tie point.

Simply take the loops and tie of a bow.

Tighten the lower loops the same way and tie off the ends.

Please Note: You do not have to tie this so tight that you can't breathe!

Fit to be Tied corsets fit like a hug. Perfectly to your exact measurements.

They should be snug, but only as tight as you are comfortable with.

All done!

Now to get out of it, undo the loops at the back, loosen the laces a bit, and undo the busk.

Next time it'll be easier. I promise.
